The factory for Varna Paints was located on one of the arterial roads in an industrial park in North Bangalore.  It was to be built in several stages with the only first phase to be constructed now.  This was primarily a rectangular steel structure measuring 36 m x 45 m in size.  The plan was simple but complexity was brought in to the front elevation.  Since the shed had a long façade and it was right on the road, the visibility of the façade and its scale were important elements in the design.  The client was keen to use exposed brickwork, so a brick base was juxtaposed with metal sheeting for the walls, used horizontally, instead of vertically.  The steel structure in a bright red was exposed outside and contrasted well with the stark metal sheeting.  A massive overhang clad in shiny, aluminium reflected the structure below and also captured the surroundings on a shimmering canvas.
