On a corner plot of a residential area, this was a house designed for a middle aged couple with grown sons. The house was on three levels, but all the levels were connected with an open plan. The ground floor belonged to the family and their dogs. The formal living room was at a split level over the garage and could be accessed directly from the entrance, while the bedrooms were on the upper level and quite private. The plan was worked out in such a way that part of the upper floor could be hived off if necessary, to create a studio apartment that was accessible from the rear. The walls were finished with a stone grit, accented by granite cladding at some places. With time, creepers and other plants would grow and set off the greys of the grit and the granite cladding.
